As October creeps closer and Halloween decorations start appearing in shop windows, thoughts naturally turn to all things spooky. With ghost tours booming and paranormal investigations becoming mainstream entertainment, CryptoCasinos wanted to discover which UK cities have earned the most spine-chilling reputations.
The comprehensive online platform, known for reviewing crypto and Bitcoin-based casino sites, decided to venture into decidedly different territory by investigating Britain’s most haunted destinations.
The study examined abandoned buildings, haunted locations, Google search popularity for paranormal terms, and the availability of ghost tours across 25 British cities. Each city received a weighted Haunted Score out of 100, combining these factors to identify the places where the supernatural seems most at home.
And, Newcastle ranked seventh in the list with its 62 abandoned buildings, seven haunted locations and a Google Search Index of 190, giving it a haunted score of 59.60.
Taking the top spot was London with 50 abandoned buildings and five haunted locations. London’s 1180 Google search index shows significant public interest in its supernatural side, hardly surprising given the city’s 2,000-year history filled with plagues, fires, and countless dramatic deaths.
From the Tower of London’s famous ghostly residents to the countless Victorian-era buildings that have seen better days, the capital offers plenty of fodder for ghost hunters.
Nottingham claimed second place, followed by Leeds and Cardiff in third and fourth place retrospectively.
