After nearly two decades since the last mainline title was released, the New Virtua Fighter Project was finally announced late last year, and we’ll be hearing more about it in the near future.
Sega just revealed today they’ll be holding a special event next month where the New Virtua Fighter Project is likely to make an appearance.
The company is set to host their RGG Summit 2025 and RGG Direct though we don’t know the exact contents of what will be shown yet.
This year’s RGG Summit and Direct are scheduled to take place on September 23 at 8 p.m. PDT.
Obviously, the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio will presumably show off updates to all of the games they’re currently working on like Stranger Than Heaven and any new Like a Dragon / Yakuza titles they have coming up.
But it is important to remember, however, that RGG Studio is also now in charge of Virtua Fighter too.
Even if the fighting game doesn’t show up at that event, we do at least know that more news is coming next month elsewhere.
With their gameplay concept trailer for the New Virtua Fighter Project at Evo 2025, Sega confirmed more details about the title would be revealed at Tokyo Game Show 2025, which is scheduled to run from September 25-28.
There’s still a ton we don’t know about the new Virtua Fighter, but recent interviews indicate they’re not looking at any Sega guest fighters currently and they don’t feel the need to compete against Tekken specifically.
Street Fighter 6 is also set to make an appearance at Tokyo Game Show this year along with Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, so it should be a pretty good time for fighting game fans at the big event.
