New investor Nathan Owen has outlined his commitment to Stafford Rangers after making a whirlwind trip to watch last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Bury.
Owen, who last week became the second US-based businessman to invest in the Boro this month, described how he was “nearly brought to tears” by the 92nd equaliser which ended their eight-match losing streak in the Northern Premier League West Division.
Born in Wolverhampton, Owen grew up in Rugeley and retains strong ties to the region. His trip to Marston Road was arranged at short notice after the club’s board accepted his initial investment last week.
Another US-based businessman, George Bruneau, made a six-figure investment into the club earlier this month and was also present at Saturday’s match.
In an open letter thanking supporters for the welcome he received, Owen wrote: “The last few days are somewhat of a blur.
“The trip was organised a few days earlier after receiving the support of the board to move forward and confirmation of receipt of the wire for the initial investment.
“Arriving at the hotel after midnight on Friday I did not get to sleep until around 5am as I was so full of excitement, ideas, and anticipation, it felt similar to the night before my wedding.
“The warmth and genuineness of the greeting upon arrival at the ground set the tone for the rest of the day.
“It all felt so very natural, so very comfortable, so very home, straightaway. I was so pleased to be able to meet so many of you and your families and friends during the day and hear so many great stories and suggestions and such depth of support for the club and what we are trying to do.”
Owen, who is based in Connecticut, previously attended matches at Marston Road in the 1990s and found his interest in the club rekindled following a trip home during Christmas, 2024.
His and Bruneau’s investment proposals will be voted on by shareholders at the forthcoming AGM.
Owen wrote: “I’m a firm believer if you’re not listening, you’re not learning. I very much look forward to continuing to learn from you all and am proud to officially join your family after such a long time away, assuming you’ll say yes. ‘I do’.”
