On January 30, 2026, Paul Andre (“Dre”) de Vera interviewed Matt Mc Dermott on the SEO Video Show YouTube channel. de Vera asked Mc Dermott questions about the emerging use of Web3 (Web 3.0) backlinks and using other blockchain, decentralized, and NFT platforms to complement efforts to increase traditional search engine optimization rankings, as well as AIO and GEO results. The two first met earlier in January 2026 at the annual SEO Rockstars conference which took place in Dallas, Texas. Speakers from around the country presented on emerging and advanced topics in the search engine optimization industry.

I want to thank them all for their kindness, time, and ideas on how to improve and refine this potential new niche for the SEO, AIO, GEO, and related digital marketing industries.”
Topics which Mc Dermott covered in both his presentation at SEO Rockstars as well as on the SEO Video Show interview included web3 websites and web3 domains, NFT virtual land platforms tied to specific locations on Earth, decentralized social media and decentralized publishing platforms, the different kinds of metaverse platforms, rewarding followers with tokens and NFTs, and decentralized video sharing. He then discussed some of the nuances as to which platforms currently can, and cannot yet, help increase search engine rankings. Additionally, at the SEO Rockstars conference and in conversations with attendees at the event, Mc Dermott was able to confirm that many of the currently popular AI LLM platforms are now including these kinds of Web3 platform links in the top “sources” and “links” for queries, possibly being searched by prospective audiences.
An additional topic, briefly covered at the conference and in the SEO Video Show interview, includes the ability for businesses to start being included in online map platforms dedicated to those that accept cryptocurrencies. These map and directory platforms, although typically built on traditional web 2.0 platforms, also help with search rankings and can get indexed on their own in the search engine results. These currency-focused online map listings (citations) also help companies increase their trust to be displayed in the AI results.
