The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested multiple suspects and seized vast quantities of illicit substances, including cannabis, opioids, and tramadol.
Among those apprehended was a 75-year-old grandfather, Uchelue Ikechukwu, who was found in possession of 26.7kg of skunk in Anambra State.
NDLEA operatives confirmed the arrest of Uchelue Ikechukwu on Thursday, 28th August 2025, during a targeted raid in Umudioka, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State. The elderly suspect was reportedly caught with 26.7 kilograms of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis.
In coordinated operations across the state, six other individuals — Eneh Makuo, Emmanuel Chiemeli, Uwakwe Matthew, Chukwujekwu Ehirim, Ifeanyichukwu Olisa, and Odoh Chukwuma — were also taken into custody. They were allegedly found with varying quantities of opioids and skunk in the Nkwelle and Amichi areas.
In Taraba State, NDLEA agents, backed by personnel from the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Forest Security Service, Mambila Youth Vanguard, and local vigilantes, stormed a sprawling 71.5-hectare cannabis farm in Mayodoga forest, Sardauna Local Government Area.
The operation, which took place on Tuesday, 26th August, led to the destruction of 178,750 kilograms of skunk.
The farm’s alleged owner, 30-year-old Alfa Andrew, was arrested at the scene with a Dane gun in his possession. Authorities described the seizure as one of the largest cannabis eradication efforts in recent years.

In Kaduna State, NDLEA operatives intercepted a fuel tanker at the Abuja/Kaduna tollgate on Friday, 29th August, uncovering 104,900 capsules of tramadol concealed within the driver’s compartment.
The consignment was suspected to be en route to insurgents operating in parts of Borno State. A suspect, Hassan Buba, was promptly arrested in connection with the discovery.
The following day, Saturday 30th August, NDLEA officers apprehended another suspect, Kabir Sulaiman, aged 45, at the Gwargwaje-Zaria checkpoint. He was allegedly found with 34.150 kilograms of skunk.
In a separate intelligence-led operation, NDLEA agents arrested 33-year-old Uchenna Umeh, identified as a major supplier of illicit opioids in Borno State. The arrest took place on Saturday, 30th August, shortly after Umeh reportedly received a shipment from Onitsha, Anambra State.
A search of his apartment in the Chescon, Pompomary area of Maiduguri yielded 30,640 pills of tramadol (225mg), 7,940 tablets of rohypnol, and a cash haul of ₦7,999,200 in newly minted ₦200 notes.
Legit.ng earlier reported that operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a widow, Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike, for attempting to traffic 1.3 kilograms of illicit drugs with a fake pregnancy.
A 50-year-old fashion designer was arrested in Lagos while attempting to move the c@caine consignment to customers in Abuja.
The NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, stated that Ezewuike is the proprietor of Golden Star Creation, a fashion outfit located on Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos.
