Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has promised to fight for justice for 13-year-old Ochanya Elizabeth Ogbanje, whose death in 2018 sparked nationwide outrage and the #JusticeForOchanya campaign.
Ochanya reportedly died from Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF) after years of alleged sexual abuse by her aunt’s husband, Andrew Ogbuja, a lecturer at Benue State Polytechnic, and his son, Victor. The abuse allegedly began when she was just eight years old.
She was laid to rest on November 2, 2018, in her hometown, Ogene-Amejo, Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.
Reacting to renewed public calls for justice, Senator Natasha said she recently learned that the suspects had been discharged and acquitted. She urged Ochanya’s family to submit a petition to her office so she can take action and help ensure justice is finally served.
