Payak, who attends Rizvi College in Bandra, resides in Jogeshwari but hails from Morbi in Gujarat. At the time of the incident, he was on his way to Vile Parle to meet a friend. He told mid-day, “I was wearing a helmet. When I approached the Andheri flyover, I suddenly came across a huge pothole, and my bike skidded. I fell, and a running cement mixer crushed my helmet. Luckily, I survived and received only injuries to my head and hand.” “The authorities who ignored this crater should get the strictest punishment. I could have died. I was not overspeeding or riding in a zig-zag manner. The pothole is solely to blame for my situation,” he added.

The youth’s father, Rajak Payak, said, “I was in Morbi when I received information about my son’s accident from someone who was at the spot. I immediately rushed to Mumbai and found my son at Cooper Hospital. I shifted him to Nanavati Hospital. Many accidents take place in Mumbai and other cities, yet the pothole menace still persists. I request the authorities not to play with citizens’ lives and repair all roads. I have registered a complaint at the Andheri police station. My son received four stitches on his head and sustained serious injuries to his hand.”
