Ireland AM presenter Muireann O’Connell has given a health update after having some strange symptoms related to her ears and taste buds
Muireann O’Connell is well used to interviewing people about various health conditions through her work on Ireland AM – but now the Virgin Media presenter has opened up about her own health.
The Limerick native lifted the lid on some unusual symptoms she was having in relation to her ear and taste buds, with many people online telling her that she might be entering perimenopause.
Muireann decided to go to the doctor to get checked out, and she gave her followers on Instagram an update.
“So I went to the doctor today and told her that the internet had diagnosed me with perimenopause, and she said ‘no’.
“I thought I was going to be going in, telling her a few bits and pieces and walking out of there with the HRT gel and that did not happen,” Muireann explained.
“I’ve got the itchy ear and then my mouth. My taste buds are either sour or fizzy. I’ve had that for about a year, and of course I’ve been ignoring the problem which is not very responsible considering the job that I do and the stories that I hear every single day,” she added, referring to the interviews she does with people on screen.
“[The doctor] looked in the ear and she said I didn’t have a build up of earwax, but she gave me [a treatment]. It’s olive oil that you drop into your ear.
“Girls, if you’ve had the itchy ear… it’s still itching but it’s like a slip and side in there. It’s been a delightful itching experience tonight.”
Muireann added that her doctor was so nice and patient when she brought up all of her queries. “My doctor was absolutely lovely, a complete dote. I went in with a massive list and she sat there and went through every single thing with me.
“She was like, ‘Should you not have gone to the doctor sooner?'”
Muireann thought she had only been at the doctor a few months ago, but really it had been two years. “My bloods are getting done in a week and a half, not all GPs do them there and then. I have been emailing a speciality clinic, to go there as well to check things out. They are just very busy and I’m trying to find an appointment.”
