Driven by a 74.5 per cent surge in data revenue and a base of 53.2 million active data subscribers, MTN Nigeria is leveraging its 2025 financial health to push a digital inclusion agenda.
The telecoms operator paired its audited financial triumphs – including a 215.5 per cent jump in cash flow to N1.2 trillion – with a N32.3 billion investment by the MTN Foundation in the last 21 years.
The company is ensuring its commercial momentum translates into skills for the next generation. In 2025, in partnership with American Towers Corporation Foundation, MTN equipped 62,284 young Nigerians with critical digital skills. Furthermore, the company’s proprietary MTN Skills Academy platform witnessed 129,858 registrations, with 20,959 participants completing their courses in 2025. This upskilling is a byproduct of the telco’s commitment to ensuring Nigeria’s digital backbone is strong and future-proof.
Beyond youth training, MTN’s social footprint targeted women economic empowerment and agricultural development. The foundation disbursed N208 million in equipment loans to 71 Women Y’ellopreneurs. Simultaneously, the company bridged the digital divide in rural areas by providing 500 farmers with Internet data, granting them real-time access to weather forecasts and market prices. In addition, over 17 million people were reached during 2025 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
These grassroots interventions are made possible by the company’s strict capital discipline and financial resilience. According to MTN’s corporate framework, profit moves beyond merely cash in the pocket and is vital fuel for Capital Expenditure (CAPEX). The company asserts that without significant profit, the CAPEX required to maintain and expand the network into rural communities would be impossible. This operating performance allowed for accelerated network investment to enhance quality of service for users.
Ultimately, analysts signified that the company’s results are proof that progressive government policies are working. The company’s balance-sheet resilience enabled the resumption of dividend payments, allowing it to deliver attractive returns to its shareholders.
