Dornoch Area Community Interest Company (DACIC) marked Community Transport Week with a special visit from local MSP Maree Todd, who came to The Dornoch Hub on Friday, October 17, to learn more about the success of the Dornoch Community Transport project.
The project, which began as a pilot scheme, has quickly become a lifeline for residents across the area, helping people reach medical appointments, social activities, and essential services. Operated by volunteer drivers, the initiative uses an electric vehicle to promote sustainable travel and community connection.
During her visit, Ms Todd met with volunteers and DACIC representatives to hear first-hand how the service is reducing isolation, supporting older and less mobile residents, and contributing to local net-zero goals.
“It’s inspiring to see how local people have come together to make a real difference in their community,” Ms Todd said. “This project shows the power of community-led action in tackling both social and environmental challenges.”
DACIC Chairman Luke Watson expressed gratitude for the visit, saying: “We’re delighted to have Maree Todd recognise the hard work of our volunteers and the positive impact community transport is having in Dornoch and beyond.”
The event was part of a national celebration highlighting the vital role of community transport in connecting rural communities across Scotland.
