MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Saturday said it received requests for blood supply augmentation after the devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake that hit Davao Oriental on Friday left at least 8 people dead and hundreds injured.
In a statement, PRC said the Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center (DOPMC) requested more blood supply to support both the earthquake victims and existing patients who require frequent blood transfusions.
The PRC Davao Oriental Chapter released 70 units of blood from its available stock to immediately meet the needs of the patients.
PRC Chairman Richard J. Gordon emphasized the importance of preparedness. “Every drop of blood saves lives. The Red Cross will always be ready to respond,” he said.
