Monalisa Opens Up On Facing Bias In The 50: ‘I Felt The Discrimination’

Monalisa claims eviction was planned against smaller teams

Monalisa was recently shown the exit door on The 50. While her journey on the reality show left a strong impression, the Bhojpuri actress hasn’t shied away from sharing her thoughts on what went on behind the scenes.

In a recent interview with SCREEN, Monalisa opened up about her experience on The 50, touching upon gender bias within the show and the discrimination she felt as a Bhojpuri actress.

On Her The 50 Journey

Describing her journey as ‘short-lived’, she shared that when Monalisa and her husband Vikrant Singh entered the show, they were excited to learn about the other couples and hoped to form genuine friendships. She said she never expected to connect with all 50 contestants but believed she would at least bond with a few people and build her game around those relationships. However, once inside the house, she felt the atmosphere was already charged, as many contestants seemed to carry old fights and unresolved controversies from outside. According to her, past grudges from earlier shows and pre-existing equations heavily influenced the dynamics, making it difficult to start afresh. “Which is why I wasn’t able to fit,” said Monalisa.

Are Female Contestants Not Being Treated Fairly Inside The 50?

Several female contestants have alleged that they were not treated fairly during the game, claiming that male players such as Rajat Dalal, Prince Narula, Mr. Faisu, Siwet Tomar, and others reduced them to mere vote banks and repeatedly pushed them into the danger zone. Addressing the issue of sexism on the show, Monalisa said that fairness also depended on how women chose to play the game. She pointed out that many women preferred to define their presence by aligning themselves with others. She felt that had they stood independently and spoken up more, things might have been different. According to her, this lack of assertiveness led to unfair treatment, and she herself became a target because of these dynamics. She stated, “When I got evicted, I saw that it was planned, they wanted to evict the smaller team first. All the girls also supported them in this; they should not have done that.”

On Bullying Accusations And Facing Discrimination

Monalisa addressed the bullying allegations raised by some female contestants, including Bhavya Singh and Khanzaadi, saying her experiences were different. She claimed Khanzaadi was rude to her and that she barely interacted with her, while Bhavya, her roommate, often discussed the issue with her. Monalisa added that standing strong matters most, even if it leads to eviction, as she would rather leave with self-respect than be labelled someone’s sidekick.

Monalisa also recalled facing discrimination inside the show. She said, “What I felt the worst about was…I indeed belong to the Bhojpuri industry, I have done 200 films there and I come from the regional zone. But for the last seven years, I have been working in the TV industry. But I didn’t understand why I was being sidelined. I felt the discrimination and only wondered why it happened.” She added that she and her husband were treated differently in the show.

Monalisa shared that she was repeatedly reminded on the show by the other contestants that she had entered with her husband. She pointed out that while they were just two people, others had come in with much larger groups of 15 to 16 contestants, making the criticism feel unfair.
