The former Liverpool winger struck in the 68th minute, finding the bottom corner from Aleksandr Golovin’s pass to seal victory for Sebastien Pocognoli’s side, who finished the game with 10 men after captain Thilo Kehrer was red carded in the 80th minute. The champions began the day two points clear at the top but defeat in the principality left them within striking distance of closest challengers Marseille and Lens having played a game more. It meant a third defeat of the season in all competitions for Luis Enrique’s European champions and their second in a month after being beaten by Bayern Munich in the Champions League. They could have few complaints at falling to defeat against Monaco and rarely looked like hitting the heights that led them to last season’s European crown. Fabián Ruiz shot wide after 20 minutes after being set up by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s pass, then Vitinha was denied by a good stop from goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky after being teed up by Lee Kang-In. The champions were in the end let down by a lack of precision in front of goal. Of 17 efforts on goal, only four troubled Hradecky and the visitors were unable to convert their dominance of the ball into genuine goal threat. Kvaratskhelia brought a save from the Monaco keeper at the start of the second half then from the resulting corner Senny Mayulu headed Vitinha’s cross wide of the post. As the game wore on, the feeling grew that PSG might be vulnerable to a threat from Monaco that had bubbled beneath the surface, and sure enough the home side took their chance when it came. Golovin worked the ball up to Minamino who in turn found space to take aim and put his strike out of the reach of goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier and in for his fourth goal of the season. Kehrer was then dismissed for a bad foul on Ibrahim Mbaye after a VAR review upgraded an initial yellow card. Paul Pogba was sent on for his second league appearance since returning from a two-year doping ban to shore up the midfield and help see out the win.
