Reshuffle focuses on 17 new departments, generational shift, increased female representation
The Ministry of Economy and Finance conducted its first section chief-level personnel reshuffle on the same day as the ministry’s launch on the 2nd. A key feature was prioritizing the placement of section chiefs in newly established or reorganized core departments to minimize work disruptions immediately after the launch, while significantly increasing the number of section chiefs born in the 1980s and female section chiefs.
This reshuffle first allocated section chiefs to 17 reorganized or newly established departments. These included the Green Transition Economy Division, Strategic Economy General Affairs Division, Strategic Economy Analysis Division, Strategic Investment Support Division, Strategic Export Support Division, and Artificial Intelligence Economy Division under the Innovation Growth Office, as well as the Government Bond Market Division and State Property Development Division under the National Treasury Office. The ministry stated, “This measure ensures policy implementation can begin immediately after the launch.”
Generational shifts are also notable. For the first time, a section chief from the 47th open recruitment class was appointed, and 17 individuals, accounting for approximately 20% of all section chiefs, assumed the position for the first time. The number of section chiefs born in the 1980s increased to 24, up by seven from the previous year. Section chiefs in their 30s also appeared for the first time.
The proportion of female section chiefs rose significantly, from 24.4% last year to 30.6% this year. The ministry stated that appointments were made based on work performance and expertise, regardless of gender or career background. Several section chiefs were also selected from career-hired personnel to strengthen the organization’s policy responsiveness.
Through this reshuffle, the ministry plans to stabilize the organization early and swiftly advance strategies for economic recovery and innovative growth.
