A young Milford woman has reached the finals of one of the UK’s most prestigious hospitality competitions, the 2026 Gold Service Scholarship.
Founded in 2012, the Gold Service Scholarship is the UK’s only award dedicated exclusively to front-of-house professionals.
Caoimhe Houston, who formerly worked at the renowned 2 Michelin star Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons in Oxfordshire, competed in the finals of the scholarship, which recognises excellence in front-of-house hospitality and service.
During the final, which took place on January 19th at Kerridge’s Bar and Grill in the Corinthia London, candidates were required to plan, prepare and deliver a three-course lunch for invited guests. The tasks included mise en place, welcoming guests, tableside preparation of dishes, and wine service.
Caoimhe’s passion for hospitality began in Donegal at The Silver Tassie Hotel & Spa.
She later studied at Shannon College of Hotel Management, where she earned her degree.
Through a number of industry placements, she developed a strong interest in fine dining, which led her to work at Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons.
Speaking about the experience, Caoimhe said she would encourage anyone with a love for front-of-house hospitality to apply for the competition.
She said “It’s an incredible opportunity to challenge yourself, learn from industry leaders and showcase your passion for hospitality. I would strongly encourage anyone who loves this side of the industry to apply for the scholarship next year.”
Edward Griffiths, chair of the judges, praised the standard of the competition, saying: “This year’s finalists represent a broad cross-section of the hospitality sector.”
Caoimhe added “A huge thank you goes to her Food and Beverage Manager, Peter, and Assistant Restaurant Manager, Valentino, for their guidance and encouragement throughout this journey.
“I am also deeply grateful to the judges, as well as to family and friends, for their support and belief in her accomplishments.”
The winner of the 2026 Gold Scholarship will be announced on the 9th February 2026.
Caoimhe will now go on to work at Hélène Darroze at The Connaught in London.
