To get things off the ground, Meta is already testing these AI-powered interviews with current employees. Volunteers are participating in trial runs of the new format to help the company fine-tune the questions and structure. The goal? To create an interview experience that mirrors real-world development environments, and to make it harder for candidates to “cheat” by secretly using AI tools. If everyone is allowed to use AI, the focus shifts to how well you use it, not whether you’re using it at all.
This shift also comes on the heels of a major reorganisation earlier this year, where Meta let go of over 3,600 employees due to performance issues. Since then, the company has doubled down on its AI efforts, launching Superintelligence Labs and pushing toward a future where AI is tightly integrated into everything it does.
As CEO Mark Zuckerberg put it in a podcast earlier this year, the goal is to have AI that’s as effective as a mid-level software engineer. That means tomorrow’s engineers at Meta will need to do more than just write clean code, they’ll need to collaborate with AI to build smarter, faster, and more scalable solutions.
