Puzzle & Guardians blends match-3 puzzles, RPG growth, and blockchain incentives, reflecting the rising role of Web3 in mobile gaming.
South Korean blockchain developer METABORA GAMES and emerging mobile studio Baligames are unveiling a new hybrid game, Puzzle & Guardians, at Japan’s largest Web3 conference, WebX 2025.
The game combines casual match-3 puzzle mechanics with role-playing game (RPG) growth elements and Web3-based reward systems, marking the first collaboration between the two companies on a LINE Messenger mini Dapp. The title will integrate blockchain-based rewards, giving players incentives beyond traditional gameplay.
The launch is part of the “Mini Dapp Station,” co-hosted by LINE NEXT and the Kaia DLT Foundation, where attendees can test the game, view demos, and interact with global participants.
Baligames, founded by developers behind the Anipang series, recently secured strategic investment from Sky Mavis, the creators of Axie Infinity, highlighting the studio’s growing influence in Web3 gaming.
Additionally, METABORA also teased its new product brand, BORA DEEPS, aimed at increasing engagement within the broader BORA ecosystem. Its first planned service, QUEST, will link in-game missions to blockchain-based rewards and launch alongside Puzzle & Guardians.
WebX 2025 runs through August 26 in Japan, hosting a range of blockchain developers and industry participants focused on the convergence of Web2 and Web3 entertainment.
Industry Shift
The gaming industry is undergoing a significant transformation in 2025, as game developers are increasingly experimenting with hybrid models that blend traditional mobile game mechanics with blockchain technology and offer players new forms of engagement and rewards.
Play-to-earn (P2E) games are a prominent example of this trend. They allow players to earn real-world rewards, such as cryptocurrency and NFTs, while enjoying immersive gameplay.
The market for P2E blockchain games is set to hit $7.66 billion by the end of 2033, with a steady CAGR growth of 21%.
Why This Matters
By combining casual puzzle gameplay with RPG growth and blockchain-based rewards, Puzzle & Guardians could attract both traditional gamers and crypto users, showing how blockchain tech can enhance gaming experiences.
