Mercedes-AMG GT XX
Mercedes’ performance division is entering the new era with the revelation of the first full-electric concept called the AMG GT XX. The four-door GT previews the halo model based on the automaker’s new AMG.EA skateboard architecture. This platform promises high power output and what we can call ultra-quick charging speeds. While the car looks production-ready even in its current state, there is still time for its arrival. It is expected to make its debut in its final form next year.
While the design is new, and in appearance sits close to the AMG GT 4-door coupe, it is reminiscent of a Maserati with what we can all agree is a mouth-shaped grille. It continues with the tapered rear end with no rear glass. The rear end gets six circular tail light units. The design chief, Gorden Wagener, claims that this element is meant to mimic the quad exhaust tips seen on the gas models with the AMG badge.

Supporting the design of the Mercedes-AMG GT XX is an all-wheel-drive setup, which draws power from three electric motors, with one at the front end and two at the rear. These motors are power-dense axial flux designs instead of the regular radial flux units found in most EVs. The result is a total power output of 1341 hp. The acceleration figures have not been revealed. However, the projected top speed is 360 kmph.
With the new 800-volt electrical architecture, the car gets a new battery technology. The capacity of the battery has not been specified yet. However, AMG claims that the tall, thin battery cells have been used in the pack and come with a special cooling system, which gives repeatable performance.
The architecture also allows for a charging speed of up to 850 kW. This translates to a range of 399 km on five minutes of charge, considering adequate charging equipment, i.e., a DC fast charger. Mercedes has created a new prototype charger with Alpitronic for the same and plans to roll it out to the public at some point in the future. The charging can be done via a CCS port.
On the inside, the Mercedes-AMG GT XX offers something very different compared to the current EQ vehicles, the major change being the elimination of massive hyperscreens covering the dashboard. The duty is now handled by two large screens inside. It now seems to be more driver-focused following a minimalist pattern, with orange accents.
Additionally, AMG claims that they have used sustainable materials for the cabin; the list includes a synthetic leather made out of recycled rubber from GT3 racing tires. Added to the mix are lightweight seats with carbon-fiber structures, and the squared-off steering wheel, all inspired by race-car cockpits.
