A MENTAL health and wellbeing charity has received an extra boost thanks to legal eagles.
In April 2024 Dorset law firm, Porter Dodson, adopted The Harmony Centre as its Charity of the Year, with staff raising close to £2,000.
The firm has now presented the charity with an additional final cheque for £500.
The charity has also benefited from practical support from the firm’s staff, raising its profile with other local businesses, as well as the much-needed cash.
Rachel Coney, Chair of Trustees at The Harmony Centre said: “We cannot thank the Porter Dodson team enough for their support for our work over the last year.
“We have benefitted not just from the donation of money raised by the staff team, but through their sponsorship of other fundraising activities and their help in raising awareness about us and our work with the local community and other local businesses.”
The Bridport office selected Harmony because they wanted to support a local charity which has had a major impact on the local Bridport community and beyond.
Fundraising activities by the law firm included running a charity raffle at The Melplash Show, sponsoring a fundraising concert featuring two popular local bands at the town hall and selling cream teas to local firms on Valentine’s Day.
Each cream tea box contained some mental health and wellbeing information from Harmony, as well as scones, generously donated by Morrisons Bridport, tea bags donated by Clipper Teas, and the Cream Tea Society discounted cream and jam from Rodda’s and Tiptree.
Bella’s in Bridport also donated a dairy-free Dorset apple cake. The Bridport office staff delivered each of the 97 boxes personally.
Staff have also provided practical support with things like distributing posters and leaflets about Harmony’s services in their own home communities.
Jacqui George, Bridport office charity coordinator, said: “As a team, we enjoyed working collaboratively with Harmony and being actively involved in helping in a practical as well as financial way throughout the year. Harmony have been extremely supportive of Porter Dodson; they have included our logo and details in any marketing of events and Press Releases, and their website, actively publicising our support for them.
“Throughout various support events and activities, the connection with Harmony for Porter Dodson has demonstrated locally, our commitment to the local community, which is important to us as a team and a firm.”
