
IAS Officer Breaks Stereotype: In the era when political leaders and businessmen send their children to private schools or abroad for studies, an IAS officer sets an example and slaps the stereotype, challenging perceptions about government-run schools by sending her two kids to Zilla Parishad (ZP) Anganwadi school. The move by the IAS officer has sparked widespread discussion and has been praised by people as a major step toward strengthening trust in public education. Mittali is currently serving as the Collector of Nandurbar district in Maharashtra.
As soon as the news of an IAS officer sending her kids to Anganbadi school spread on social media platforms, people started praising Sethi for breaking the stereotype and promoting the government schools. As a collector, she is running the administration in the tribal-dominated district in a unique way. Notably, the Maharashtra district share its border with Gujarat. Notably, Sethi has also served in Chandrapur district.
Mittali was born in Punjab’s Jalandhar. She was a bright student. After completing her preliminary studies she earned a dental degree (BDS) from Amritsar. Then she went to Chennai and completed her master’s degree in orthodontics.
A doctor by profession, Mittali didn’t even know the meaning of IAS. But later she decided to change her career path and started her preparation to become a public servant. Sethi didn’t find success in her first and second attempts, but she never lost hope and continued with her studies.
She cracked the UPSC exam in her third attempt in 2017. Mittali not just cracked one of the toughest exams in India but also succeeded in securing 56th rank.
Her life took a major turn when she attended a youth camp in Gadchiroli. There she met professionals working in the development sector, which inspired her to pursue medicine.
At the same even, a friend told her about the civil services and she told herself, ‘ why not, lets give it a try’.
Mittali started preparing for the UPSC exam without any coaching. She started preparing for the competitive exam while continuing her job in Pondicherry. After failing twice, she relied on online resources, test series, and mock interviews. Her hard work paid off in her third attempt.
