Hardap: Hardap Governor, Riaan McNab, has expressed concern over the slow implementation of capital projects in the region, specifically those under the Ministry of Health and Social Services and the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare. McNab raised his concerns during a courtesy visit from the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Gender Equality, Health and Social Welfare to his office on Wednesday. The committee was in the region to conduct an oversight visit to capital projects in the region to scrutinize the implementation and impact of government policies, programmes, and projects.
According to Namibia Press Agency, McNab spoke from his experience as a former rural constituency councillor, expressing deep concern about persistent delays in capital projects, particularly within the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Gender Equality. He highlighted the lack of fully functioning healthcare facilities, doctors, and nurses in rural constituencies, which forces many residents to travel to hospitals in Rehoboth and Mariental for basic healthcare services. McNab urged the committee to address this pressing issue.
The governor also pointed out that infrastructure development remains a critical issue for both the Health Ministry and the Ministry of Gender Equality. He emphasized that due to the absence of proper government structure development, the Ministry of Gender continues to operate from rented offices, and there are insufficient Early Childhood Development centres in the affected areas.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee conducted site inspections at several healthcare facilities in the Hardap Region, including projects for the construction and upgrading of healthcare centres in Maltah¶he and Stampriet, as well as the renovation of the Mariental District Hospital.
