
MANILA, Philippines — Marvin Asis turned out to be the last Filipino cue artist standing out of the 14-player Philippine delegation in the Florida Open at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando.
Asis advanced to the last 16 of the tourney while top Filipino bets Johann Chua and Carlo Biado found the exit door in round of 32 on Saturday.
Chua fell to Spanish Francisco Sánchez Ruiz, 4-10, while 2-time 9-ball world champ Biado bowed to Danish Mickey Krause, 6-10.
Another Pinoy who made it to the last 32 in Bernie Regalario could not progress after yielding to German Moritz Neuhausen, 4-10.
Asis started his knockout campaign by defeating Indonesian Albert Juanata in the round of 64, 10-2.

The 25-year-old followed up with a 10-8 triumph over Polish Konrad Juszczyszyn in the round of 32 early Saturday.
Asis secured a prize money of $4,000 or P227,000 as Chua, Biado, and Regalario bagged $2,000 or P113,500 for reaching the round of 32.

Asis was pitted against American Shane Van Boening in the last 16 early Sunday in Manila, with the winner entering the quarterfinals.
A win would secure Asis a prize of $7,000 or P397,250 in the tourney that offers $40,000 or more than P2.2 million for the champion.
Patric Gonzales, Lee Vann Corteza, Harry Vergara, and Roberto Gomez were the other Philippine players who made the knockout round but lost immediately in the round of 64.
