Marshals: A Yellowstone Story is one of the most eagerly awaited new dramas of 2026, as it picks up the narrative of Kayce Dutton (portrayed by Luke Grimes).
After Kevin Costner’s early exit as John Dutton from the popular Western series created by Taylor Sheridan, and its finale in 2024, countless fans have been anticipating the return of the Dutton saga to their screens.
Their wait will soon be over, with the fresh series Marshals set to follow Kayce after his father’s passing.
We can also look forward to the reappearance of Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) later in the year in The Dutton Ranch, as well as another spin-off, The Madison, fronted by Michelle Pfeiffer, launching later in March.
2026 is shaping up to be the year of Yellowstone’s grand return, so let’s delve into what we know about the franchise’s upcoming spin-off, Marshals, reports the Mirror.
Marshals will carry on the tale of Kayce Dutton following his father’s demise, as he joins a top-tier team of US Marshals to combat crime across Montana.
As he employs both his Navy SEAL training and ranching expertise to administer justice, he must also learn to juggle his duties as a father to his son, Tate (Brecken Merrill).
An official summary from CBS states: “A Yellowstone spinoff that follows Kayce Dutton as he leaves his ranch life behind to join an elite unit of the U.S. Marshals.
“Kayce combines his skills as a cowboy and a Navy SEAL to bring justice to Montana. He and his teammates must balance family, duty, and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”
Luke Grimes will naturally be fronting the series as Kayce, with fellow Yellowstone actor Merrill back as his on-screen lad, Tate.
Several recognisable faces from the main series will also be making a comeback; Gil Birmingham as Chief Thomas Rainwater, the Chairman of the Broken Rock Reservation, and Mo Brings Plenty as his trusted aide, Mo.
It remains unclear whether actress Kelsey Asbille (Don’t Move) will be returning as Monica, Kayce’s missus, though rumours suggest she’s either left the programme or will be written out in the opening episode.
The remaining principal cast features:
Brett Cullen (The West Wing) will also be popping up regularly as a character called Harry Gifford.
Lastly, main cast member Kebbel has hinted that some “recognisable” country music artists will be appearing throughout the series, so keep your eyes open.
The launch of Marshals marks a significant shift from earlier Yellowstone series, as episodes will debut first on the CBS network in America.
Episode one, entitled Piya Wiconi, kicks off at 8pm Eastern Time/9pm Pacific Time on Sunday, 1st March. The series will run for 13 episodes, with new instalments airing every Sunday.
Fortunately, those unable to watch the live broadcast, including international viewers without CBS access, can still follow the series. Each episode will be available on Paramount+ the following Monday morning.
Episodes are usually uploaded onto the streaming platform at 3am ET, which means UK fans should be able to catch up with Marshals from 8am on Monday mornings.
Marshals: A Yellowstone Story premieres Sunday, 1st March on CBS and the following Monday on Paramount+.
