I’m talking about Chimp Haven, a beautiful and sprawling forever home for over 300 chimpanzees. Nestled in the heart of the Eddie D. Jones Nature Park in Keithville, this non-profit sanctuary is a true gem, offering a peaceful retirement to chimps that were once used in laboratory research.
While you can’t just pop in for a visit, Chimp Haven does open its doors to the public for special Chimpanzee Discovery Days. But a word to the wise: you have to be fast! Tickets for these events are in high demand and sell out incredibly fast. It’s not just folks from Shreveport and Bossier trying to get in, either — people come from all over Louisiana and East Texas for this rare opportunity.

The Fall 2025 Chimpanzee Discovery Day will be on Saturday, October 18th, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. It’s an early start, but it’s well worth it. During the event, you’ll get to see the chimpanzee families in their expansive, forested habitats and learn all about their lives at the sanctuary from the expert staff. You can also get an add-on ticket for a hayride tour for a different view of the grounds.
