Liverpool target Marc Guehi remained tight-lipped on his future after scoring during Crystal Palace’s 3-0 win at Aston Villa. The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the 25-year-old England international and made an improved £35 million bid for the player on Saturday.
After holding club-to-club talks earlier this month, Arne Slot’s side decided to lodge a straight offer to Palace which has remained on the table. The bid is understood to include a ten per cent sell on clause.
However, Palace are thought to want £35m plus £5m in bonuses. Discussions between Liverpool and the Eagles are ongoing and there is confidence that an agreement can be reached in the next 24 hours.
Despite Liverpool making a proposal and a desired attempt to sign Guehi, he still featured for Palace as Oliver Glasner’s side made the trip to Villa in the late Sunday kick-off.
The former Chelsea centre-back impressed and scored a wondergoal as the Eagles ran out comfortable winners in the West Midlands, with Palace including him as the focus of their pre-match team news graphic in a clear message.
After the game, Guehi was asked about playing for Palace, his future and his overall mindset amid speculation about a potential departure and a late summer move to Liverpool.
He told Sky Sports: “I am OK. I don’t like the limelight too much, there are a lot of cameras in my face all the time and constantly talking about me but I’m glad I have got a good club and good teammates around me.
“When you focus on what’s important, which is the football, it makes it a lot easier.”
When quizzed on what it means to play for Palace, Guehi admitted: “A lot. South London boy, grew up in South London. Captained the football club from a young age. They have been fantastic for me and my family.
“Definitely a pleasure to be playing for this football club.”
