MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A man who stabbed a woman to death in a random attack as she was filling her tires with air in Macomb County is going to learn his sentence on Thursday.

Shane Burns, 33, of Washington Township, was found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder, assault with intent to murder, felon in possession of a firearm, two counts of felony firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, disarming a peace officer and carrying a concealed weapon.

He was also charged as a habitual offender.

After Burns’ six-day trial, the jury returned their verdict after just about 20 minutes of deliberations, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

Burns faces up to life in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2025.

Cheryl Ann Parsley, 60, of Clinton Township, stopped at the Belle Tire on Gratiot Avenue in Roseville on May 17, 2023, to put air in her tires when Burns randomly stabbed her and slit her throat, killing her.

After that, Burns attacked Robert Baecke Jr., 42, who was waiting at a bus stop located at 12 Mile Road and Harper Avenue in St. Clair Shores, stabbing him several times.

Police found Burns near Van Dyke and Stephens in Warren later that day.

After Burns was taken into custody, he started biting his wrists. When an officer told him to stop, Burns grabbed a knife from the officer and slit his own wrist.

In addition, when authorities searched Burns’ car, they discovered a shotgun, a 9mm firearm and ammunition.

“Today’s verdict brings a measure of justice to the victims of this horrific attack,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families, who have shown extraordinary strength. We hope this conviction offers them some solace. I want to thank the investigators, first responders, and our prosecution team for their tireless work. While nothing can undo the harm caused, we remain committed to pursuing justice for all victims of violent crime.
