Manchester United have received a boost even before their Monday night match against Everton kicks off. Chelsea conceded a late equaliser to Burnley on Saturday, meaning that a win at Hill Dickinson Stadium could put United three points ahead of the London team in the race for Champions League qualification.
However, picking up a fifth victory in six games under Michael Carrick may not be as simple as it seems. Everton managed a victory at Old Trafford in the previous encounter, despite being reduced to 10 men for over half the match following Idrissa Gana Gueye’s dismissal.
The situation was quite different for the Red Devils back then, particularly in terms of management. Carrick has since replaced Ruben Amorim and remains undefeated as he pursues Champions League qualification.

Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has been excelling at Napoli since his move to the Italian club in 2024. However, if Antonio Conte’s team decide to sell their star player, his former club could receive a healthy financial windfall.
McTominay played a crucial role in Napoli’s Scudetto triumph last season, securing their return to the Champions League. There has been speculation about a new contract as recognition for his excellent performances, with the Scottish midfielder’s agent Colin Murdock reportedly having discussions with club officials.
An enhanced deal would dismiss any prospect of a return to the Premier League, at least in the short term. However, United would be due 10 per cent of any transfer fee should Napoli opt to sell one of their most valuable players.
McTominay cost Napoli just over £25million when he joined Estadio Diego Armando Maradona. Should he depart this summer – though this appears unlikely – he would probably fetch a considerably higher price and bring his old employers a very welcome seven-figure payday.
Trabzonspor have no intention of making Andre Onana’s loan arrangement permanent, according to reports in Turkey. The Cameroonian international goalkeeper made an impressive start following his loan move from Manchester United to spark talk of a summer swoop but that talk has died down of late.
Fatih Tekke, the Turkish club’s manager, is reported to have offered Onana his personal support following a 3-2 loss to Fenerbahce. However, the club are not thought to be making a permanent summer deal for the goalkeeper a priority.
The defeat was Trabzonspor’s first since the new year began and damaged their slim title aspirations. Onana retained his place for the following match, though, starting away at Gaziantep as his team won 2-1.
Onana’s contract with United doesn’t run out until 2028 and it’s not completely out of the question that a new manager decides to welcome him back into the fold. There have also been whispers of a potential return to his previous club Inter Milan, where he reached the Champions League final in 2023 prior to his transfer to Old Trafford, though it remains to be seen what will happen in the summer.
