A Monmouth County man is accused of stealing over $141,000 worth of iPhones from the company he worked for, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced Friday.

Norberto O. Matias, 35, of Union Beach, was charged with second-degree theft by unlawful taking, officials said.

Matias worked as a business sales account manager for a telecommunications company and is accused of ordering iPhone 15s under multiple company accounts and having them shipped directly to his home, officials said.

Shipping records and interviews with five of Matias’s clients revealed that the phones the companies had been charged for were never delivered to them, officials said.

The 123 phones that Matias is accused of stealing remain unrecovered and were valued at over $141,000, officials said.

Matias was charged by summons and released with an initial court appearance scheduled for Aug. 26.

An attorney for Matias did not immediately return a request for comment.
