
A man has died following a single-vehicle collision in Co Offaly on Bank Holiday Monday.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash at Ballina Cross in Annaharvey, Tullamore, at approximately 11.50pm.
Despite the best efforts of the medical personal, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a man aged in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The man’s body was removed from the scene and taken to the Mortuary in the Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore where a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.
Gardai have closed the R420 between Geashill and Cloncollig Roundabout, Tullamore, to allow Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out a technical examination of the scene.
Local diversions are in place and motorists are being advised to avoid the area if possible.
Gardai have launched an investigation into the fatal collision and have issued an appeal for anyone who witnessed the cindient to come forward.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a single-vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred at Ballina Cross, Annaharvey, Tullamore, Co. Offaly at approximately 11:50pm on Monday, 4th of August 2025.
“The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a man aged in his 30s, was fatally injured. No other injuries were reported.
“The body of the man was removed to the Mortuary in the Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore for a post-mortem examination to take place.
“The R420 between Geashill and Cloncollig Roundabout, Tullamore, has been closed for a technical examination to be carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.”
The garda spokesperson added: “Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between around 11:40pm and midnight are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Tullamore Garda Station on 057 932 7600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
