The behaviour of a woman getting out of a taxi led to the arrest of two people and a man being jailed. Officers from the EVOLVE operation in Everton-Vauxhall from Merseyside Police Walton Lane Neighbourhood Policing Team were on plain clothes patrol on Monday, February 2, when they spotted a woman acting suspiciously as she got out of a taxi.
Officers searched the property the woman entered and found several wraps of suspected heroin and cocaine. A woman inside the house was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.
A man inside the house was arrested after officers found a large knife hidden in his waistband.
A 33-year-old woman from Anfield and a 48-year-old woman from Kirkdale were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and were taken to a police station for questioning.
They have since been released pending further investigation.
Anthony Wignall, aged 49, of Ruskin Street, Kirkdale was charged with possession of a bladed article and on Wednesday, February 4, was sentenced at Sefton Magistrates’ Court to 34 weeks’ imprisonment.
Inspector Christopher Taylor, one of the senior officers involved in EVOLVE Everton-Vauxhall, said: “Drugs and violence are often closely linked and we will not tolerate individuals who bring weapons onto our streets or seek to profit from criminality.
“Our officers will continue to take robust action against those involved in drug supply and knife crime, while working with partners to prevent young and vulnerable people from being drawn into harm.
“We encourage anyone with information or concerns to come forward – your support helps us keep our neighbourhoods safe.”
