A man is hurt after a shooting early Friday near a home on upscale Chain Bridge Road in Northwest D.C.
The shooting occurred in the 3000 block. News4 video shows a black SUV with a shattered driver-side window and what appeared to be a gunshot toward its back end.
A source close to the investigation told News4 the shooting occurred after an attempted burglary at a home on the street, leading to a confrontation between a security guard and multiple suspects.
“I heard a number of shots and a scream around 3 o’clock in the morning,” a neighbor said.
He said he heard about five shots in what is usually a quiet neighborhood.
“Awhile later, I saw some flashing and there ended up being nine police cars here, crime scene tape,” he said.
News4 spoke with others who didn’t want to be shown on camera.
D.C. police responded at about 3 a.m. They found one man injured and he was taken to a hospital. His injuries were not from a gunshot wound, police said without elaborating. It wasn’t clear whether the man who was hurt was the guard or one of the suspects.
Police said they’re searching for three people who took off in a gray sedan.
A neighbor said he wants more information from police.
“It’s pretty important to understand what was really going on there,” he said. “If this was some sort of random crime, that’s one thing, but if it was actually some sort of targeted situation, then does the neighborhood have to be worried?”
News4 is working to learn more.
A home on the street recently sold for $20 million, a real estate search shows. Others sold for $2.75 million, $3.4 million and $8.8 million.
The shooting occurred as federal agents and National Guard troops patrol D.C. after what President Donald Trump called a crime emergency in the District.
“We’ve had some incredible results, that results have come out,” Trump told agents and troops outside a Park Police facility in Anacostia on Thursday evening. “And it’s like a different place; it’s like a different city. It’s the capital. It’s going to be the best in the world.”
