
Road closures are in place this evening after a man was hit by a car in Southport. Emergency services were called to Lulworth Road at around 5.20pm today, Tuesday, January 20, following reports of a crash involving a pedestrian.
The incident involved a black Land Rover and a man aged in his 60s. His injuries have not yet been confirmed, but he is understood to be receiving medical treatment. Merseyside Police said Lulworth Road has been closed in both directions between Oxford Road and Weld Road while emergency services respond and enquiries are carried out.
One witness described the scene on social media, saying members of the public stopped to help, providing first aid supplies, a blanket and a towel until police arrived.
In a statement posted on social media, Merseyside Police said: “Officers and paramedics are responding to a road traffic collision. A temporary road closure is in place between Oxford Road and the traffic lights at the junction of Lulworth Road and Weld Road.
“Please avoid the area if possible for the next couple of hours at least. Thank you for your co-operation.”
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a black Land Rover and a pedestrian.
“The injuries of the male pedestrian, who is in his 60s, are currently unknown.”
Road closures are in place and drivers are asked to avoid the area and find an alternative route.
