A man in his 60s has died in hospital following an overnight house fire in Co Cork . Members from Cork City Fire Brigade arrived at the scene at 3.37am on Sunday, four minutes after receiving a call from a Bord Gáis employee that a fire had broken out in a dwelling on Noonan’s Road.
Upon arrival, the crew donned oxygen masks and bravely forced their way into the home. Once inside the property, they discovered a man aged in his 60s lying unconscious inside. Members of the CCFB worked to resuscitate the casualty while waiting for National Ambulance Service personnel to arrive. Once paramedics arrived on the scene, they took over the treatment, and the man was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital . Sadly, he was pronounced dead some time later and a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course. The fire crews managed to get the blaze under control, and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
