
A man in his 30s has died and another is seriously injured following a three-vehicle collision on the N4 near Edgeworthstown, Longford. The incident occurred around 7 pm, prompting a Garda investigation and road closure. Gardai are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.
A young man has died and another is seriously injured following a horror three vehicle crash in Longford this evening. Gardai and emergency services are currently at the scene on the N4 at Edgeworthstown.
The collision, involving two cars and a van, happened at around 7pm on the Longford Town side of the N4 after the Edgeworthstown Roundabout. The driver of one car, a man aged in his 30s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Another man aged in his 30s has been taken to hospital for injuries believed to be serious but not life-threatening. No other injuries have been reported at this time. The road is currently closed for a forensic collision investigation and local diversions are in place. Gardai are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact them. A Garda spokesperson said: ‘Gardai and emergency services are currently attending the scene of a fatal road traffic collision on the N4 at Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford this evening, Saturday, 3rd January 2026. ‘The collision involved two cars and a van and occurred on the Longford Town side of the N4 after the Edgeworthstown Roundabout at approximately 7pm. ‘The driver of one of the cars, a man aged in his 30s, has been pronounced deceased. Another man, aged in his 30s, has been taken to hospital to be treated for injuries believed to be serious but non-life threatening. No other injuries have been reported at this time. ‘The road is currently closed for examination by Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place. Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them. ‘Any road users, who may have camera footage and were travelling in the area between 6:30pm and 7:15pm this evening are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardai.’ Anyone with information is asked to contact Granard Garda Station on 043 6687 660, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
