DAVIDSON COUNTY — A Stokes County man is accused of using his involvement in North Carolina’s rodeo community to form relationships with underage girls he then had sex with, including one in Davidson County, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and Davidson County Sheriff’s Office said.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a report Oct. 13 alleging multiple sexual assaults from January to October that reportedly occurred in northern Iredell County.
As the investigation continued, detectives learned of reported sexual assaults on children in both Stokes County and Davidson County and contacted the sheriff’s offices in those counties, the Iredell sheriff’s office said.
From Oct. 15 to Oct. 17, the Davidson County and Iredell County sheriff’s offices conducted multiple interviews and gathered evidence indicating that Shane Dalton York, 33, of Duggins Road in eastern Stokes County engaged in sexual activity with children in Davidson, Iredell and Stokes counties, the two sheriff’s offices said in separate press releases.
York was arrested Friday, Oct. 17, at his home in Stokes County, where detectives from all three counties interviewed him, the Iredell sheriff’s office said.
York was charged in Davidson County with three counts of statutory rape of a child under 15 and four counts of indecent liberties with a child. York was also charged in Iredell County with human trafficking of a child victim, two counts of statutory rape of a child and two counts of indecent liberties with a child.
The arrest warrants in both counties indicate all of the charges involve sex acts with the same girl.
Additional charges are expected in Iredell, Davidson and Stokes counties, the Iredell sheriff’s office said.
York was being held in the Davidson County Detention Center with bond set at $3 million secured and is scheduled to appear in Davidson County District Court on Dec. 5 and in Iredell County District Court on Dec. 17.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and additional charges may be filed, the sheriff’s office said.
