Major changes need to be made at Nuneaton Fire Station after ‘issues were identified’. The station has been based on Newtown Road since the mid 60s.
After controversial Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service changes were made last year, the station now plays home to just one fire engine. It has now emerged that there are pressing issues within the building itself that need to be changed too.
According to Warwickshire County Council papers, there are a number of specific issues that need to be addressed including its current shared dormitory, the location of the female firefighters’ facilities, including showers, toilets and lockers, as well as there being no direct route from dormitories without passing through the male toilet and shower rooms.

Initial bids to make changes were first made in 2024 as part of wider works. “However, the scope of the project has now been adjusted,” the paper explains, adding a new ‘streamlined’ bid has been made and costings have been updated.
Under the revised proposals for Nuneaton include these key features
The Nuneaton station is not the only one that needs changes, Rugby’s fire station does too and that forms part of what are proposed works set to cost £1.3m in total.
The council paper states that the Nuneaton works are set to cost £645,000.
A decision on whether to approve the building alteration works will be made at a meeting on Thursday, March 5.
