M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro Release Date Tipped for the “Week of March 2”

Speculation around Apple’s next high-end MacBook Pro has dragged on for months. January passed without an announcement, even though many expected a launch tied closely to macOS 26.3. What now looks clear is the timing. New MacBook Pro models powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are lined up for early March, not earlier.

In his latest Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman outlined a firmer window for the release. He explained that the new MacBook Pros remain linked to the macOS 26.3 release cycle, which runs through March. That connection sets a natural deadline and narrows the launch window in a meaningful way.

Gurman wrote:

“As for the specific timing of releases: Apple expects to deliver the first beta version of iOS 26.4 to developers the week of Feb. 23. The new MacBook Pros, meanwhile, are tied to the macOS 26.3 cycle that runs through March. The M4 versions of the high-end laptops remain in short supply, a telltale sign that new models are coming. A product launch is currently slated for as early as the week of March 2.”

That statement effectively ends the guessing game. The launch is no longer imminent, but it is close.

“As early as the week of March 2”

Apple usually announces new hardware early in the week. Historically, Monday through Wednesday remain its preferred days for press releases and product updates. If that pattern holds, the M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pro models should arrive between March 2 and March 4.

The continued shortage of existing M4 Pro and M4 Max configurations strengthens this timeline. Apple often lets inventory thin out before refreshing a product line, especially for professional hardware with predictable upgrade cycles.

Other Mac launches are waiting in line

The MacBook Pro refresh is only part of a broader spring Mac update. According to Gurman, Apple plans to follow up with several other Macs shortly after the Pro models land.

* A new MacBook Air with an M5 chip

* Updated Mac Studio desktops

* A refreshed Studio Display

Rumors point to the Mac Studio adopting M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. The next Studio Display is expected to keep a similar design while adding HDR support and a higher refresh rate, likely 90Hz or 120Hz.

Looking further ahead, Apple also plans a cheaper MacBook powered by an iPhone-class chip, reportedly the A18 Pro, aimed at cost-sensitive buyers. A new Mac mini is also on the roadmap, building on the redesigned M4 version.

If you are waiting to upgrade a MacBook Pro, early March now stands as the clearest answer yet. The launch is close enough to justify holding off, especially if you want the jump to M5 Pro or M5 Max performance. For everyone else, the spring lineup signals a busy few months for the Mac, with options across nearly every price tier from Apple.
