Luke Littler saw the funny side after his World Darts Championship final was interrupted by a wasp at Alexandra Palace.
The 18-year-old beat Gian van Veen 7-1 on Saturday night to win the second World Championship title of his career.
During the first week of the World Darts Championship, players were disrupted during games due to the presence of wasps at the venue.
After a quiet few days, a wasp returned for the final and made a beeline for Littler during his fourth set against Van Veen.
Littler was forced to abandon his second throw as he ducked and weaved in order to evade the insect.
After a brief pause, play was able to resume and after winning the trophy, Littler shared his theory on the infamous wasps at Ally Pally.
‘I say it every year, someone has to put a wasp in here, they don’t just come out of nowhere, no chance,’ Littler said.
Meanwhile, Littler will celebrate his second World Championship title in a row with £1 million in prize money.
‘It is life-changing for anyone,’ Littler said.
‘Even the first round was doubled. It’s life-changing, this win has just increased that gap from Luke Humphries and I’m in the clear as world number one.’
When asked what he will buy with his prize money, Littler replied: ‘I don’t know. I can’t change car just yet. We’ll have to see.’
Littler also revealed his desire to win more trophies.
‘I didn’t think it would be anything like it has been,’ the 18-year-old said.
‘I’ve been practising, the family and friends have always been there to support me.
‘It’s very special. We’ve got to keep going, we’ve got to keep adding more titles. We can’t stop here. We’re still on this rollercoaster.’
