MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) – Belarus must advance cooperation with China at sectoral and regional levels, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with heads of Belarus’ diplomatic missions, BelTA has learned.
The head of state emphasized that China remains Belarus’ key partner among distant countries, with current bilateral trade reaching nearly $8.5 billion – $1 billion more than Belarus’ total trade with the European Union. “But beyond these figures, we must recognize the broader cooperation landscape and China’s strategic importance for our economic future,” the president noted.
Aleksandr Lukashenko reiterated Belarus’ top-priority objective to boost joint technological development and attract cutting-edge Chinese innovations, particularly in machine tools, microelectronics, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and other designated sectors. “Step up cooperation at the level of industries and regions,” urged the Belarusian leader.
He instructed the government and the embassy in China to provide comprehensive support at all stages of joint projects – from market analysis and investor engagement to coordination and implementation oversight.
“Our strategic focus on Asia remains strong, with high-level engagement ongoing in Vietnam, Indonesia, Iran, Mongolia, Myanmar, and Pakistan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports good prospects with Thailand and Laos,” stated the president.
However, he noted that Asia-bound export growth (by 27.3%) still lags behind national averages since 2020: “We must step up efforts significantly, especially considering the dynamics on the Russian market.”
