Love brought Amy Atwell and Ally Wilson together at Perth Lynx and they would now love a WNBL championshipCraig O’DonoghueThe West AustralianFri, 27 February 2026 3:31PMCommentsCommentsEmail Craig O’Donoghue

Perth Lynx co-captain Amy Atwell jokes that if the club wins the WNBL championship this season, the club should store the trophy at the house she recently bought with partner and teammate Ally Wilson.

That kind of makes sense. After all, as she points out, there’s two of them and they moved into a house they bought together in December.

Wilson and Atwell have been in a relationship for three years, and have spent the last two seasons as teammates. They met while representing Australia at 3×3 but spent their first WNBL season together living in different states.

Atwell was helping the Lynx win through to the grand final while Wilson was living in country Victoria and playing for Bendigo.

So when the opportunity opened up for them to not only play in the same team, but live in the same state, they seized upon the chance. Now they could go one step further and win the championship together.

“It would obviously be pretty cool,” Atwell said.

“To have that shared memory and win a championship together would be really cool and something we could look back on for the rest of our lives.

“Winning a championship for the club in general would be unreal because there’s only been one in history. To bring the second one home would be huge on its own.”

The Lynx lost the opening game of the best-of-three grand final series on Thursday night after Townsville dominated the second half. The Fire produced a dominant third quarter, outscoring Perth 24-10, to set up an 88-79 victory.

Now the Lynx get their opportunity to play on their home court in front of a sold out crowd at the Perth High Performance Centre on Sunday.

Wilson has already won two championships throughout her illustrious career. Ironically, she won her first title with Townsville in 2015 and then followed up with her second victory for Sydney Flames two years later.

Atwell is looking to make up for losing the grand final in 2024 and Wilson was in the grandstand during those games riding every bump along the way.

Atwell again showcased her ability to perform in big games on Thursday night by scoring 19 points. She has averaged 20 points per game across her four grand final appearances.

Atwell said playing alongside Wilson for the past two seasons had been a breath of fresh air. She said being part of a long distance relationship with another basketballer posed unique challenges.

“I was having a really good year personally the first year we were together, but it was hard being away,” she said.

“We were playing for different teams that has similar schedules but we had to deal with different time zones. That was hard. You’re on your phone a lot more because that’s part of long distance relationships.”

“That was one of the biggest things we spoke about when we were both going to free agency and potentially playing together. It was that we could no longer do long distance. That’s definitely been good.”
