The Woburn Sands Garden Centre says the past few years have been extremely challenging but claims recent government policies have made it “almost impossible for businesses to survive”.
Run as an independent garden centre, restaurant and retail emporium, it has suffered from financial losses, reduced customer spending, rising costs and extra tax pressures, say the bosses.
This mean the business is “no longer viable.
“We have made the very difficult decision to close the business…This is not a decision that has been taken lightly and it’s one we make with real sadness.”
They added: “We invested significant time and financial resources in an attempt to build a successful and sustainable operation. We explored every reasonable option to stabilise the business and sought further financial support where possible. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, continuing to trade is no longer possible.
“We are acutely aware of the impact this will have on our team and want to sincerely thank our staff, customers, and suppliers for their support over the years. This is not the outcome we wanted, but it is the difficult reality we now face.”
A closing down sale will start tomorrow (Friday January 9) with 20% off everything
The business was originally owned by Wyevale and sold to the Rochmills Group in 2019. It is almost opposite Frosts Garden Centre on the Newport Road and Frosts will continue to trade as normal.
