The following is the opinion and analysis of the writer:
Columnist Gerald Farrington writes that “The barbarians are not just at the gate. They’re inside. We are the barbarians who are destroying American culture from the inside.”
Thanks to frequent Star LTE writer Hope Gastelum who suggested debate since he and I have strikingly different opinions after inhaling the very same political, cultural, social and even histological data and, spoiler alert, his barbarians turn out to be us Republicans.
Farrington believes that “The cornerstone principle of being humane is to embrace the common humanity of all people — the civilizing pillars of which are diversity, equity, inclusion, and access.” This is pure poppycock. His civilizing pillars were constructed out of pure sand in the last few decades by leftist social engineers. The bedrock of modern successful societies has been strong nuclear families anchored in communities that share their values. They live in flourishing countries with capitalist economies and minimal governmental corruption because their democracies periodically vote out the old corrupt to bring in the next corrupts. They respect for law and order. Sorry, Farrington, there is no common humanity only successful societies and let’s just fix ourselves before we try to fix everyone else.

The enlightened Democrats of the 1970s promoted leftist government policies that incentivized moms to divorce their husbands and marry the government and prioritized welfare over work to gain votes, but Farrington accuses Republican barbarians of the cleansing of traditional norms. This barbarian says that you are wrong.

The disintegration of MLK’s dream of a color-blind society went on steroids in 2008 when “post-racial” Barack Obama took office, overwhelmingly elected by white voters, promising to fundamentally transform America. That he did and America began the descent into Farrington’s barbarism which I prefer to label tribalism and DEIA. No more E Pluribus Unum. America will no longer be a melting pot and those two words are banned in California public schools. This is a big step backward for America.
Farrington informs us that my views are anti-modern, progress, innovation and enlightenment, producing stagnation and then rot while asking us to accept that ancient Greece and Rome were destroyed by outside barbarians. Most successful societies collapse from within with the same internal decay being advocated by Farrington for America today.
Methinks that the social rot that is destroying our great country comes from his Democratic political viewpoint. Boys can play in girls’ sports. It’s fine to score a pair of Nikes when you loot a store for a good cause. Abortion not abstinence is the go-to choice for birth control. Graduate high school with a sixth-grade education and demand a job. We’ve watched the creation and evolution of the LGBTQ+ acronym as more characters were added by the alphabet mafia for “inclusiveness.” We are now required to celebrate rather than just accept Pride Month as we watch parades with children present openly showcasing debauchery on our media screens that harkens back to the depravity of ancient civilizations. These kids’ brains are being rotted and will lead to the demise of America if we allow the Democratic groupthink to continue.
Farrington says that America’s dynamic culture can be summed up in a single word, “immigrants.” He loves them and so do Republicans, but open borders is yet one more bad Farrington idea. Emotionally he champions that all the uninvited crashing our borders should have access to what makes America great, our justice system and the U.S. social services safety net while Americans will have to wait in line behind them.
Please enter our sovereign country legally. Many visa opportunities are available and if you work hard and play by the rules perhaps someday you may become a citizen of the greatest country human civilization has ever created, the United States of America.
Reader Hope Gastelum wanted a debate and I trust she got it.
