BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Elliot Jackson, a young boy from Bowling Green, is one of just 400 people worldwide diagnosed with a rare genetic mutation known as MCAP, a part of a group of disorders called PROS.
The condition causes overgrowth on one side of the body, and for Elliot, that includes a noticeable birthmark above his lip and enlarged features on his left side.
MCAP was first identified in 1997, and symptoms vary widely, making each case unique. Elliot’s parents, Anthony and Brittany Jackson, were stunned by the diagnosis, having prepared for parenthood without knowing their child would face complex medical challenges. Despite undergoing four major surgeries — including brain and spinal procedures — Elliot remains joyful and resilient.
Treatment options are limited and costly, with the only FDA-approved therapy costing over $38,000.
Elliot is currently a contestant in the Toddler of the Year competition, where votes and donations will benefit Toys for Tots, and if Elliot wins, the money will go to M-CM Network for research.
