Livingston MP Gregor Poynton has praised the outstanding work of the West Lothian School Bank following a visit to their headquarters, where he met Project Manager Collette Moran and her dedicated team.
The visit gave Mr Poynton the chance to hear more about the charity’s vital work supporting families and young people across West Lothian.
The School Bank collects and redistributes pre-loved and new school clothing, footwear, football boots, sports kit and essential equipment — making sure no child misses out on education, sport or community life because of financial hardship.
Working alongside local schools, sports clubs, community groups and other charities, the West Lothian School Bank provides practical help to families struggling with the rising cost of living and the growing costs of education.
During his visit, Mr Poynton heard about the increasing demand for support and met some of the volunteers who make it possible for the School Bank to reach communities right across West Lothian.
Mr Poynton, who has also supported local football boot banks in Broxburn, Fauldhouse and Stoneyburn, described the West Lothian School Bank as “the beating heart of this movement.”
He said: “It was fantastic to meet Collette and the team and to see first-hand the difference the West Lothian School Bank is making.
“Every young person deserves the chance to take part in clubs and activities and arrive at school with the right equipment and ready to learn — no matter what’s in their parents’ wallets.
“Thanks to Collette and her volunteers, hundreds of children are getting that opportunity through their schools, local clubs and community partners.
“Their work is a powerful example of local compassion, community spirit and teamwork. I’m proud to support them and to help spread the word about what they do.”
The West Lothian School Bank continues to welcome donations of pre-loved and new clothing, footwear and equipment.
Items can be dropped off at their headquarters in Kirkton Campus, or at one of their community collection points identified by the distinctive red donation bins.
As the colder months approach, the charity is particularly appealing for donations of winter clothing and accessories, including jackets, boots, hats, gloves, Halloween costumes and Christmas jumpers.
