Upcoming events include 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, conversation with Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist and author Charles Duhigg, author of “Supercomminicators: How to Unlock the Secret Language of Connection,” on how to communicate and connect with anyone at work; 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, author Amanda Peters discusses her bestselling novel “The Berry Pickers” and short fiction collection “Waiting for the Long Night Moon: Stories.”

Celebrating America’s Veterans Program: 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10. Join presidential historian Dr. Larry Cook as he interviews Vietnam veteran and Mountain Top resident George Venesky, highlighting his time spent as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. “Wicked” Good Time Themed Party: 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17. For ages 7 to 17. “Wicked” fans welcome to the Yellow Brick Road for a party filled with Emerald City decorations, themed snacks, and fun activities, including a “Wicked” themed costume contest with prize; witch hat ring toss, bubblegum pink pop contest, “Wicked” game of “Jeopardy!” and more. The Un-Bound Book Club: Meets third Thursday of the month. No assigned book; just come and enjoy a friendly, casual, bookish conversation with fellow readers. Open to teens and adults. To register, call Information Services at 570-287-2013, ext. 230.

Makerspace Mondays: 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Mondays. For children aged 7 to 15; parents welcome to attend. Offers hands-on learning experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, with the goal of encouraging the next generation of thinkers, creators, and problem-solvers. Math tutoring sessions: 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Wednesdays. Fanhui Kong, a professor in mathematics at Wilkes University, is offering free group tutoring sessions to any student from grades 6 to 12 in mathematics. Group tutoring involves working with students simultaneously to provide individual instruction and support in a specific subject or skill to address learning needs. Registration is required; call the library.

Help restock Alice’s Closet: Alice’s Closet is a new and gently used boutique in need of gently used clothing, shoes, accessories and homewares. Donation of any of the above items would help continue a well-received program in the community. Donations are accepted during library hours and all proceeds fund library programs. Free crochet time: 1 to 3 p.m. Thursdays. All skill levels. Bennett Reading Room and the Jane Nicholson Reading Nook. Come and meet other like-minded crochet enthusiasts of the community in a welcoming atmosphere to relax and chat. Bring your current crochet project and your own supplies. LEGO Build Fun for Kids: 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Thursdays. Chronic wasting disease presentation: 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19. Presented by Pennsylvania Game Commission Wildlife Biologist Robyn Crouthamel; informational program on chronic wasting disease that is a threat to deer and elk in Pennsylvania. Feeding deer is strongly discouraged and is illegal within Pennsylvania’s existing areas established to try to control the disease’s spread, called Disease Management Areas in portions of Carbon, Columbia, Luzerne and Schuylkill counties. Socrates Café: 6 p.m. Fourth Wednesday of the month. Reading room. New members welcome. Socrates Café is a gathering where people from different backgrounds get together and exchange thoughtful ideas and experiences. Facilitated by Steve Wallace. Call the library for information.

Seniors Connect and Bridging the Tech Gap: Hourly classes offered at 3:30 p.m. every Friday and 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. every other Saturday. To register, stop by the circulation desk or call the library and set up an appointment.

Library fundraiser: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22. Barnes and Noble, Arena Hub Plaza, Wilkes-Barre Twp. Customers will be offered a voucher to present to the cashier when making a purchase; a percentage of sales will be donated to the library. All profits benefit the scholarship fund for area graduating seniors.

Nuangola Library Book Club: 10 a.m. every Tuesday during the summer; every other Tuesday during the winter. Members read their own choice of book and report on it at the meetings. All welcome.

Building Hours: 3 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays. Each week, we will be making fun creations out of various blocks to display in the Children’s Department. Children and their parents and guardians are welcome to participate.

Family Time Fridays: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays. Join us for games, activities, crafts, and more.

Teen Nights: 5:30 p.m. Thursdays. For ages 12 to 18. Participate in various themed activities and enjoy some snacks.
