Traditionally, Macomb County Habitat for Humanity has been in the business of providing financial training so low-income families and individuals can boost their credit scores high enough to qualify for a mortgage for either a well-built Habitat home or any home for sale in the area.
But beginning last week, Macomb Habitat was thrust into the business of feeding our hungry neighbors. We posted one notice for food donations to help during the SNAP crisis, and cans and boxes immediately filled the lobby.
People who are hungry cannot begin to learn about balanced budgets and the importance of a good credit score. They can’t focus on anything when they are worrying about their children who may be so hungry they wake up crying.
It’s time to return to the core of our business, building and teaching and lifting people toward homes and hope. We want to leave the food needs to a loving and caring government who would never allow any senior, veteran, pregnant mother, or child to find themselves without necessary nourishment.
But in the meantime, Macomb Habitat is here with open arms and barrels of food – thanking a loving and caring community for responding so quickly.
In October of 1960, the musical “Camelot,” premiered in Toronto. It told the story about the mythical King Arthur and his court. Senator John F. Kennedy was elected U.S. president the very next month and his administration was forever known as Camelot. First Lady Jackie Kennedy told Life magazine in 1963 that the title track was her husband’s favorite song to listen to before going to bed at night.
Did this comparison to royalty cause angry far left mobs to violently react in protest? Of course not. The American public embraced the idea and had fun with it.
President Kennedy cut taxes and the economy took off. He also federalized the National Guard to force desegregation in rebellious Democratic states. He was an NRA life member. He was beloved by all and when he was tragically assassinated, the whole country mourned his death. As a tribute, his portrait was immediately put on the U.S. half dollar coin.
Moving forward 65 years, we are all fortunate to be living witnesses to a time in which another U.S. President is transforming into greatness.
President Donald J. Trump has also signed into law a massive tax cut for the American people that is supercharging the economy. He is rebuilding our military and has slammed the border shut. Peace is breaking out all over the world due to his negotiating skills. He is federalizing the National Guard to help cities control crime and to protect federal agents who are upholding the law of the land in modern day rebellious Democratic states.
What we are watching is the second Camelot. Remember, “Don’t let it be forgot/ That once there was a spot/ For one brief, shining moment/ That was known as Camelot.”
