A dejected Daniel Farke was left “heartbroken” following Leeds United’s agonising late defeat to Fulham. It appeared the Whites would leave the capital with a share of the spoils after a battling performance.
But Gabriel Gudmundsson’s own goal deep into added on time sentenced the Whites to a second Premier League defeat of the season. Farke told the media: “I feel heartbroken and I feel for the players. Excellent away performance. We adapted perfectly to the situation.
“We kept it tight and didn’t concede one chance in the first half. (We were) sharp on the counter attack. The way the corner kick developed – was a throw in for us then they changed the decision. It then led to the corner and the goal.
“When you concede such a goal, I feel for the lads. I feel pretty proud. Not the easiest couple of weeks with deadline day and players coming back from injuries.
“I have no critical word. Sometimes you have to accept football is like this. We are disappointed but Monday we go again.”
Daniel James sustained a knock after coming on as a second half substitute and will be assessed by United’s medical team this week. Farke hopes James has not suffered a “major” issue.
He refused to criticise left-back Gudmundsson after his own goal gifted the Cottagers maximum points. “He [Gudmundsson] just needs a hug around his shoulder,” he said. “Sometimes its written in the stars. He was excellent today and is so crucial for our game.”
