A team of lawyers for six members should meet the former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI), the founder Imran Khan in Adiala prison on Tuesday.
According to the PTI coordinator, Intezar Hussain Panjotha, the party submitted a list of names to the authorities in prison requesting permission from the meeting. The approved list includes main lawyers who represent Imran Khan in several legal affairs since his incarceration.
The president of the PTI, the lawyer Gohar Khan, will direct the delegation. Eminent lawyers Salman Akram Raja, Qazi Muhammad Anwar, Niazullah Niazi, Muhammad Ali Bukhari and Ali Zaman are also part of the team.
Party officials said that the meeting would focus on the discussion of pending legal affairs against the founder of the PTI, current calls and future legal strategy. Sources have indicated that lawyers should also inform Khan about recent legal proceedings and developments concerning the political and electoral challenges of the party.
Imran Khan has been confined to Adiala prison for several months, faced with several cases ranging from corruption references to alleged violations of national security laws. His legal team has always argued that the accusations are politically motivated and aimed to put it out of the political arena.
The PTI continues to emphasize that Khan’s incarceration has not reduced its popularity with supporters, who remain vocal by demanding its release. Adiala’s prison meeting is considered an important step to finalize the party’s legal response before the next hearings.
