POTTSVILLE — U.S. Rep Dan Meuser (R-9) joined local lawmakers and other officials at The Farm Store on Tuesday, touting the Big Beautiful Bill and the benefits they say it will have on working families.
State representatives JoAnne Stehr (R-107) and Tim Twardzik (R-123) were on hand for the event, which featured a gift card giveaway for the first 100 people hosted by Americans for Prosperity. The Pennsylvania Farm Bureau was also represented.
Mary Beth Cirucci, AFP coalitions director, said her organization advocates for limited government policies and “things that remove barriers in government that keep people from living their version of the American dream.”
“Why we’re here today is to educate people on the things in the One Big Beautiful Bill that we like that are going to benefit them,” she said. “Tax cuts across the board, doubling the Child Tax Credit, small business deductions. … We’re also here to promote the farming industry and small business, and help the community.”
Meuser said the Big Beautiful Bill will help farmers in many ways. He said $6 billion has been allocated to create a more stable management system for remnants of natural disasters, like floods and droughts.
“We also ensured the SNAP program would continue, which is important,” he said.
The bill also helps small businesses with its tax relief provisions, he said.
“We didn’t add any reduction to tax relief,” he said. “They will benefit by it. … Every Democrat voted for the largest tax increase in the history of the country. These folks would be paying almost 25% more in taxes if that bill didn’t pass.”
Meuser described Angela and Josiah Meck, owners of The Farm Store, as “amazing people” with deep roots in the local farming industry.
“This grocery store is almost a ‘farm to family’ distribution center,” he said. “Very quality, healthy food being offered without all of the transport of big trucks and everything else that goes into added costs. So it’s a very affordable, quality food distribution system in Pottsville.”
