Lao Money Expo aims to enhance financial literacy, sustainable growth

The Lao Money Expo 2025, which opened on Monday at Lao-ITECC in Vientiane, is expected to strengthen public financial literacy, expand access to modern financial services and accelerate the development of financial technology, thereby contributing to sustainable and inclusive economic growth in Laos.

The expo also aims to strengthen cooperation between public and private sector stakeholders and align the country’s financial system with regional and international development trends.

The event is jointly organised by the Bank of the Lao PDR and the Happy Event Company under the theme “Finance for Growth”.

The opening ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, Governor of the Bank of the Lao PDR, Mrs Bounkham Vorachit, senior officials from key ministries and mass organisations, and other key officials.

Also present were representatives from embassies and international organisations based in Laos, and officials from the Bank of the Lao PDR and other financial institutions and sectors.

Running from December 15-21, the expo seeks to deepen understanding of economics, finance, and banking among the public, private and international sectors.

It is also expected to raise public awareness of macroeconomic and currency management, showcase advancements in financial services and technology, and promote access to funding sources and diversified financial services.

In addition, the expo highlights emerging trends in green finance, digital banking and capital market development, while reinforcing consumer protection and encouraging closer cooperation within Laos’ financial system.

A total of 83 units are exhibiting their products and services, alongside activities such as technical discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions led by national and international experts.

Topics include digital assets in Laos, financial development trends over the next three to five years, banking sector readiness in the digital era, government policies supporting micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), financial literacy for new entrepreneurs, and banknote quality assessment.

Youth-focused activities, such as competitions in finance and banking knowledge, mathematics, and financial planning, as well as drawing contests and cultural performances, are also part of the programme.

Visitors can also donate blood to help boost stocks maintained by the Lao Red Cross.

Souvenirs, including bags, shirts, stationery items, books, lanyards, cash coupons and memorabilia from participating exhibitors, will be available throughout the event.

The Lao Money Expo is expected to benefit a wide range of participants, from those beginning their journey in financial management and technology to professionals seeking to broaden their expertise.
